Position Overview: The Laboratory Research Associate role at Houston Methodist involves executing laboratory experiments on research initiatives within established parameters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts technical research and develops testing methodologies under the guidance of the Department Chairperson or Scientist (Faculty).
  • Evaluates experimental outcomes and compiles data summaries.
  • Oversees and assesses the work completed by assistants on various projects.
  • Fosters a collaborative and positive work atmosphere, contributing to a cohesive team environment aimed at achieving departmental objectives.

Service Functions:

  • Analyzes data pertinent to research grants and publications.
  • Prepares scientific presentations for departmental gatherings.
  • Implements research experiments and integrates innovative techniques as appropriate.
  • Maintains meticulous records of all research activities and data collection.

Quality and Safety:

  • Establishes and upholds quality control measures for project operations.
  • Drafts and maintains applications and protocols for regulatory and safety committees.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and offers recommendations to enhance departmental quality and safety standards.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes resources effectively, minimizing waste.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation in managing time and prioritizing tasks efficiently.
  • Assists in ensuring that orders are appropriately allocated to grants.

Growth and Innovation:

  • Participates in grant writing initiatives.
  • Defines specific goals and objectives for research projects and takes responsibility for achieving them.
  • Actively seeks opportunities for personal development and engages in career discussions with management.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field or terminal degree with two years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Five years of experience, contingent on educational background.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates the necessary skills and competencies to perform the assigned role safely.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken, to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and manage challenging situations with sound judgment.
