Position Overview: The Airport Operations Specialist is responsible for the operation of equipment, performing mechanical and minor electrical tasks, and conducting general labor on the airfield and within airport facilities to support maintenance operations. This role involves addressing tenant concerns and conducting regular inspections of the airfield.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate construction and heavy machinery.
  • Excavate and pave using Portland cement and asphalt concrete; repair runways, taxiways, and roadways; seal pavement joints and cracks.
  • Manage all snow removal equipment and execute snow and ice control duties as necessary.
  • Mark and stripe runways, taxiways, roads, crosswalks, and parking areas.
  • Conduct demolition work and maintain landscaping.
  • Install and maintain airfield signage and traffic control devices.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to the public.
  • Report any job-related issues, including accidents or injuries, to the Airfield Superintendent.
  • Maintain airport grounds through mowing, brush cutting, landscaping, irrigation, weed control, and trash removal.
  • Install and repair security fences and gates.
  • Request necessary supplies for the replacement and repair of items essential for the ongoing service of the terminal and other facilities.
  • Perform minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and janitorial tasks.
  • Engage in manual labor as required.
  • Monitor assigned areas, replacing burned-out lamps and repairing damaged fixtures.
  • Conduct required airfield inspections and coordinate maintenance and construction activities with air traffic control.
  • Issue, update, and cancel NOTAMS as necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years of labor experience.
  • Experience driving 2-ton trucks or farm-related equipment.
  • Valid state motor vehicle license with a clean driving record.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher, free of serious or frequent traffic violations.
  • Ability to be trained in operating specialized equipment.
  • Must possess a public pesticide license or be able to obtain one during the probationary period.
  • Must have a Flagger & Traffic Control Certificate or be able to obtain one within the first six months of employment.
  • Familiarity with construction tools, equipment, and methods.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism and the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to operate job-related equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to maintain mobility across all areas of responsibility.
  • Must be able to use hands for various tasks and reach with arms.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, and smell.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Security/Safety:
  • All applicants will undergo a ten-year background check for security clearance.
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive.

Working Conditions:
The role involves local travel and participation in educational update classes. Work is performed in environments with mechanical hazards, including moving parts, noise, and exposure to chemicals. Employees may encounter weather extremes and a moderately noisy to loud work environment. Hearing protection and safety glasses are provided and required for certain tasks.

Equipment Operation:
The position requires operation of backhoes, front-end loaders, high lift trucks, snow removal equipment, hand power tools, and other construction equipment.
