Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic - Equipment Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Spokane Airport. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our airport vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on airport vehicles and equipment, including fire trucks, police vehicles, and administrative vehicles.
  • Inspect and diagnose issues with vehicles and equipment, and recommend necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Fabricate parts and special project equipment as needed.
  • Develop and implement effective preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the life of our equipment.
  • Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment and testing tools.
  • Repair and maintain brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, ignition systems, air conditioning systems, and exhaust systems.
  • Cut and weld metal, and perform auto body repairs as needed.
  • Order parts and supplies for vehicle maintenance.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to airport staff and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Notify management of any job-related problems or incidents.
  • Operate snow removal equipment as needed.
  • Perform janitorial duties as required.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a certified diesel and gasoline engine mechanic school.
  • 4 years of experience working on diesel and gasoline engines.
  • A combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position will be considered.
  • CDL Class B required, CDL Class A preferred, with a driving record free of serious or frequent violations.
  • Qualified in arc and acetylene welding and have basic knowledge in pneumatic, hydraulic, hydrostatic, and automotive electrical systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to maintenance and repair activities.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain effective accounting procedures.
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be trained to operate specialized equipment.
  • Familiarity with computers.
  • Ability to establish a work relationship with peers, supervisor, and public.
  • Skill in operation of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize tasks.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate job-related equipment.
  • Ability to maintain mobility within all areas of responsibilities.
  • Position requires being able to use hands to finger, handle, and feel.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to climb and balance as well as being able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, and smell.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and 75 pounds on occasion.
Security/Safety
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport security badge as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a current, valid driver's license free of serious or frequent traffic violations.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.
