Position Overview:
The City of New York is dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of individuals and goods throughout the metropolis. The department responsible for transportation plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that supports the economic vitality and quality of life for residents.

Role Responsibilities:
The FOIL Unit processes a significant volume of records requests annually, necessitating timely and thorough responses. The selected candidate will be tasked with reviewing and addressing FOIL inquiries that involve extensive records, conducting searches across various electronic databases, physical documents, and other data sources.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:
1. Responding to FOIL requests, including identifying applicable exemptions and redacting necessary documents.
2. Engaging in phone correspondence with both public and private entities to investigate the status of requests and communicate findings.
3. Performing various administrative duties related to FOIL requests, such as acknowledging incoming requests within the legally mandated timeframe and entering requests received by mail into the centralized Open Records Portal.

Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or its equivalent recognized by a State's education department, along with one year of relevant clerical experience.

Skills Requirements:
Proficiency in keyboarding with a minimum typing speed of 100 keystrokes (20 words) per minute.

Preferred Skills:
Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, are preferred. Familiarity with digital research tools and the ability to assess documents for accuracy and relevance are advantageous.

Residency Requirement:
New York City residency is typically required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain positions who have served for two continuous years may qualify to reside in nearby counties.
