Job Overview:

The Administrative and Events Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the educational, research, and professional service initiatives of departmental programs. This position provides essential administrative and financial support to faculty involved in various research groups within the department. The incumbent will independently plan and manage the financial aspects of numerous prestigious events hosted by the Department of Computer Science each year.

This role involves close collaboration with the Graduate School and the Office of International Student Scholar Services to facilitate the welcoming of undergraduate visiting student interns and graduate student visiting research fellows.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree accompanied by 1-2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred experience in financial and/or outreach coordination, particularly within an academic higher education setting.
  • Proven track record in organizing large-scale events with diverse attendees, including faculty, students, alumni, and esteemed colleagues from various institutions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, enabling effective information exchange and the preparation of clear, informative materials.
  • Proficiency in document preparation, spreadsheet management, and database applications (Excel and Google Sheets).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint), web-based tools, Gmail, FileMaker, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Capable of working independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
