Vice President of Area Merchandising

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with corporate and regional teams to create tailored merchandising, marketing, and category strategies for the designated Area.

Lead merchandising support within the Area Hub, ensuring effective collaboration with Area Replenishment leadership. This involves coordinating and executing merchandising initiatives consistently across various locations.

Provide strategic oversight for daily operations within the Area, including adjustments to product assortments aimed at enhancing sales performance,

expanding market share,

and optimizing GP3 (purchase allowances + selling margin, minus deviations).


Continuously assess Area performance regarding category initiatives, segmentation, sales metrics, and both local and national market trends.

Refine strategies based on analytical insights to drive success while aligning with core US Foods objectives and local Area requirements.

Supervise the implementation of strategies to improve underperforming markets within the Area. Share successful practices from high-performing markets to encourage overall improvement.


Oversee departmental activities to ensure the achievement of Area profit and loss (P&L) targets, including monitoring purchase allowances and cash discounts.

Maximize profitable sales growth through strategic product assortments,

collaborating with pricing and marketing teams to enhance category performance

.

Manage go-to-market strategies to stimulate sales, profit, and the acquisition of new accounts.

Prioritize Area category initiatives, coordinating resources for effective execution and leading comprehensive Area-wide implementation.

Develop and maintain relationships with Area-specific vendors, coordinating funding with regional and local suppliers.

Review and optimize Area product assortments across categories, focusing on minimizing duplicates and underperforming SKUs.

Evaluate and authorize new-to-Area SKUs, along with exception SKUs, providing feedback to the region regarding SKU performance and potential opportunities.

Ensure alignment with the overarching category strategy and promote EB penetration across the Area's customer base.

Collaborate with Sales to plan and execute local promotions, customer events, and general marketing initiatives.

Assist in the development, execution, and ongoing management of the Area's product training schedule.


Act as the primary contact for onboarding new customers, handling one-off bids for existing clients, and coordinating requests through the Area's Save-Our-Sales (SOS) program.

Facilitate new customer onboarding and exit processes.

Engage in cross-functional collaboration with sales leadership to


coordinate sales-related activities and direct sales solutions alongside other Area-specific specialists, such as Chemical and Beverages, Equipment and Supplies, etc.

Manage and lead the product sales support team.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training

:

A four-year college degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.

Related Experience/Requirements

:


Management experience with a minimum of 10 years in category management, marketing, and/or purchasing is required, preferably within the foodservice or food manufacturing sectors.

The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating in a functional matrixed environment and demonstrating virtual leadership across multiple locations.

Willingness to travel overnight may be necessary for training, meetings, or other company-related events.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

:

Must possess the ability to operate effectively within a matrix organization, collaborating successfully with diverse groups.

Excellent management, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills, along with strong quantitative and analytical abilities are essential.


A proven track record of leveraging influence, persuasion, and effective negotiation to achieve objectives is required, as well as the ability to work collaboratively, drive organizational change, and support change management initiatives.

Must be self-motivated and proactive, demonstrating strong business acumen, interpersonal skills, and exceptional presentation abilities, with the capacity to communicate effectively across various organizational levels.Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Experience with Microsoft Access is a plus.

Demonstrated leadership and experience managing direct reports are essential.

The following information is provided in accordance with certain state and local laws. Compensation is based on experience, geographic location, and other legally permissible factors.

The expected compensation for this role ranges from $125,000 to $165,000.

This position is also eligible for an annual incentive plan bonus.
