Key Responsibilities

The Social Service Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the management team and collaborating with senior social service personnel to ensure a secure and engaging atmosphere for residents. The assistant is expected to adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by Family & Community Services while striving for excellence in service delivery and professional conduct.

Core Duties Include:
  1. Facilitating the smooth operation of the facility and its therapeutic programs.
  2. Managing phone communications, including directing calls and taking messages.
  3. Maintaining an organized front office environment.
  4. Tracking and managing office and facility supply inventories as necessary.
  5. Conducting monthly checks on fire extinguishers and fire drills.
  6. Logging and monitoring refrigeration temperatures as required.
  7. Assisting with clerical tasks such as drafting thank-you letters and maintaining client files.
  8. Preparing accommodations for incoming residents.
  9. Coordinating with vendors for facility maintenance needs.
  10. Updating and managing medication logs.
  11. Processing and recording donations received.
  12. Ensuring timely attendance for all assigned shifts and arranging coverage when unavailable.
  13. Completing necessary documentation and reporting to compile statistics and resident information.
  14. Occasionally preparing meals for residents.
  15. Tracking attendance for therapeutic activities.
  16. Conducting intake paperwork and gathering necessary resident documentation.
  17. Assisting residents in liaising with various agencies for appointments.
  18. Accompanying residents to appointments as needed.
  19. Promoting inclusive practices to ensure all residents are treated equitably.
  20. Adapting to various work environments, whether as part of a team or independently.
  21. Providing support to enhance residents' quality of life through various activities.
  22. Participating in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  23. Building positive relationships with colleagues.
  24. Staying informed about fire regulations and emergency procedures to maintain health and safety standards.
  25. Reporting promptly for all scheduled shifts.
  26. Complying with agency policies, COA regulations, and relevant legal requirements.
  27. Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to demonstrate open communication and fair treatment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Willingness to learn about client-centered approaches and conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with community services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Capability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet driving insurability requirements.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Educational Requirements: CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.

Experience Requirements: Prior experience in crisis intervention is preferred.
