Job Overview:


The Secondary Science Educator plays a crucial role in fostering student achievement in both academic and social skills by implementing the curriculum approved by the district. This position involves documenting educational progress and activities, addressing the unique educational needs of students, ensuring a safe and conducive learning atmosphere, and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and school administration regarding academic performance and expectations.

This role reports directly to the Principal.

Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.

Certificates & Licenses:
A valid license from the Virginia Department of Education is required, or eligibility to obtain one. Endorsement in Biology, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, and/or Environmental Science is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
Tailors classroom activities to provide instructional materials that cater to individualized learning plans while adhering to established lesson plans.
Administers assessments and developmental testing programs to evaluate student competency levels and/or create personalized learning plans.

Communicates with parents and/or guardians regarding student progress to set expectations, celebrate achievements, and develop strategies for improvement and reinforcement of classroom objectives at home.

Evaluates student progress towards academic goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and school administration.

Collaborates with fellow educators, school personnel, parents, and community resources to enhance the overall quality of student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives aligned with the school improvement plan.

Advises students on performance enhancement, health issues, problem-solving strategies, and various personal matters.
Demonstrates instructional methods necessary for executing classroom and/or subject-specific tasks to deliver an effective program that meets individual student needs.

Oversees assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional aides, volunteers, and/or student workers to ensure an effective classroom environment and address the needs of each student.

Instructs students to enhance their success in academic, social, and daily living skills through a structured curriculum.
Manages student behavior to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
Supervises students in various educational settings (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) to ensure a secure and positive learning experience.
Participates in meetings to share and gather information necessary for fulfilling job responsibilities.
Prepares various documentation (e.g., grades, attendance records, anecdotal notes, etc.) to track student progress and comply with mandated requirements.
Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, etc.) to uphold student safety, foster a positive learning environment, and adhere to educational policies.
Performs additional related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the educational unit.

Clearances:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Health Compliance:
Must adhere to safety and health protocols.
