Position Overview:
The Science Educator plays a crucial role in fostering student achievement in both academic and social skills by implementing the approved curriculum of the district. This includes documenting educational progress and activities, addressing the unique educational needs of each student, ensuring a secure and conducive learning atmosphere, and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and school administration regarding student development and objectives.
This position reports directly to the Principal.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Certificates & Licenses: A valid license from the Virginia Department of Education is mandatory, or eligibility to obtain one.
Key Responsibilities:
- Modifies classroom activities to offer instructional materials that cater to individualized learning plans while adhering to established lesson plans.
- Administers assessments and developmental testing programs to evaluate student competency and formulate individual learning strategies.
- Communicates with parents and guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and achievements, while developing strategies for improvement and reinforcing classroom objectives at home.
- Evaluates student progress towards set objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with fellow educators, school personnel, parents, and community resources to enhance the overall quality of student outcomes and meet classroom objectives in alignment with the school improvement plan.
- Advises students on performance enhancement, health concerns, problem-solving strategies, and various personal issues.
- Demonstrates instructional methods necessary for effective classroom and subject-specific assignments to meet individual student needs.
- Oversees assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional aides, volunteers, and student workers to ensure an effective classroom program tailored to individual student requirements.
- Instructs students to enhance their academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a structured curriculum.
- Manages student behavior to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Supervises students in diverse educational settings (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips) to ensure a secure and positive learning experience.
- Participates in various meetings to share and gather information essential for fulfilling job responsibilities.
- Prepares a range of documentation (e.g., grades, attendance records) to track student progress and comply with mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse) to uphold student safety, foster a positive learning environment, and adhere to educational policies.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the educational unit.
