Position Overview

Executive Director


Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel is a dynamic community in Center City Philadelphia, representing approximately 375 member units and affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. We are in search of a visionary leader who will inspire and mobilize our staff, board members, volunteers, and congregants.


Key Responsibilities

The Executive Director will oversee the comprehensive business operations and management of BZBI. This role involves:

  • Setting strategic goals and objectives in collaboration with clergy to align with the congregation's needs.
  • Ensuring effective collaboration between staff and lay leadership to meet strategic objectives.


Primary duties encompass:

  • Leading operations, finance, member engagement, development, facility management, human resources, and special projects.

Specific Duties Include:
  • Managing the budget in collaboration with the President, Treasurer, and Finance Committee, ensuring adherence to financial performance standards.
  • Working closely with the Finance Committee to ensure timely collection of annual contributions from members.
  • Maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with clergy and the Board of Directors to align with the congregation's strategic plan.
  • Collaborating with the Board and various committees on strategy, communications, programming, technology, and compliance with regulations.
  • Overseeing human resources and ensuring adherence to HR policies, including performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring the safety, security, and maintenance of the multi-use facility.
  • Maintaining a professional presence at community functions and addressing congregational concerns promptly.
  • Partnering with the Early Childhood Director and other program coordinators to support their initiatives.
  • Supervising office, custodial, and security personnel.
  • Identifying and enhancing opportunities for fundraising, including special projects and grants.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A minimum of seven years of senior management experience in finance, development, human resources, administration, and facilities management.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to manage resources effectively.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic plans and understanding financial metrics.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and communication abilities.
  • Leadership experience in business operations and governance models.
  • Expertise in hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Knowledge of Judaism and Jewish culture is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $100K - $125K, commensurate with experience
