Position Overview

The Director of Finance acts as a strategic partner to the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and plays a vital role within the finance and operations leadership team, focusing on key financial and operational decision-making. This role requires close collaboration with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and various organizational leaders to enhance overall capacity and impact, while developing and executing strategies to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and automate manual processes.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Finance will be accountable for the following:

  • Supervising and mentoring the Director of Donor Services & Projects, Assistant Director of Endowment Accounting, Food Pantry Manager, and other related roles as assigned.
  • Guiding the direction, mentoring, and enhancements of the Donor Services Group, Endowment Accounting team, and Food Pantry team.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Data Services to drive the adoption of innovative data repositories and integration solutions.
  • Assisting in the annual budgeting and planning process alongside the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer; monitoring progress and keeping senior leadership informed about the organization's financial health.
  • Supporting the Director of Treasury in managing organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Providing comprehensive financial oversight and monitoring, including the development, implementation, and enhancement of sound fiscal management practices and internal controls.
  • Overseeing the accurate tracking, management, and reporting of pledge revenue and accounts receivable.
  • Ensuring the timely collection of open pledge receivables and reconciling outstanding balances, including identifying and writing off uncollectible pledges.
  • Managing monthly accounting processes, including donor transactions and financial tracking of grants and restricted gifts.
  • Implementing a robust contracts management reporting system to ensure financial data and cash flow align with operational needs.
  • Analyzing and presenting financial reports accurately and promptly; developing financial reporting materials for all donor segments and overseeing project/program and grants accounting.
  • Coordinating and leading the annual audit and tax return preparation and filing process; liaising with external auditors and the finance and audit committees of the board.
  • Overseeing all federal and state regulatory filings for the organization and its related foundation.
  • Providing support to the finance and audit committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and leadership team to implement new strategic initiatives.
  • Working with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and the leadership team to develop, implement, maintain, and enhance the strategic financial plan, providing financial insights for all strategic planning processes.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: A BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance is required, along with 5-7 years of experience in financial management within an established organization. CPA certification is preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential; familiarity with Abila MIP, Blackbaud CRM, and Sage Intacct is advantageous.
