Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer acts as a strategic partner to the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and plays a vital role within the finance and operations leadership team. This position is accountable for guiding financial and operational decision-making processes. The CFO will collaborate closely with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and various leadership teams to enhance organizational capacity and effectiveness, while also developing and executing strategies aimed at improving efficiency and automating existing manual processes.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Financial Officer will be tasked with the following:

  • Supervise and provide mentorship to the Director of Donor Services & Projects, Assistant Director of Endowment Accounting, Food Pantry Manager, and other designated roles.
  • Guide the direction and development of the Donor Services Group, Endowment Accounting team, and Food Pantry team.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Services to implement innovative data management solutions and integration strategies.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process alongside the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer; track progress and keep senior leadership informed of the organization’s financial health.
  • Support the Director of Treasury in managing cash flow and financial forecasting.
  • Ensure comprehensive financial oversight and monitoring, including the establishment and enhancement of sound fiscal management practices and internal controls.
  • Oversee the accurate tracking, management, and reporting of pledge revenue and accounts receivable.
  • Facilitate the timely collection of outstanding pledge receivables, reconcile open balances, and identify uncollectible pledges for write-off.
  • Manage monthly accounting operations, including donor transactions and financial tracking of grants and restricted contributions.
  • Establish a robust contract management reporting system to ensure steady financial data and cash flow that meet operational needs.
  • Analyze and present financial reports promptly and accurately; develop financial reporting materials for all donor segments and oversee accounting for projects, programs, and grants.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit and tax return preparation process; liaise with external auditors and the finance and audit committees of the board.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory filings for the organization and its affiliated foundation.
  • Provide support to the finance and audit committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and leadership team to implement new strategic initiatives.
  • Work with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and leadership to develop, implement, maintain, and enhance the strategic financial plan, providing financial insights for all strategic planning activities.


Qualifications and Experience: The Chief Financial Officer should possess a BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance, with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management within a reputable organization. A CPA designation is preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; familiarity with Abila MIP, Blackbaud CRM, and Sage Intacct is advantageous.
