Position Overview

The Finance Director acts as a strategic partner to the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and is an integral member of the finance and operations leadership team, responsible for high-level financial and operational decision-making. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and various organizational leaders to enhance overall capacity and effectiveness, while developing and executing strategies aimed at improving efficiency and automating manual processes.

Key Responsibilities

The Finance Director will be accountable for the following:

  • Overseeing and guiding the Director of Donor Services & Projects, Assistant Director of Endowment Accounting, Food Pantry Manager, and other relevant positions as assigned.
  • Providing direction, mentorship, and enhancements to the Donor Services Group, Endowment Accounting team, and Food Pantry team.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Data Services to facilitate the adoption of innovative data repositories and integration solutions.
  • Assisting in the annual budgeting and planning process alongside the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer; tracking progress and keeping senior leadership informed of the organization’s financial health.
  • Supporting the Director of Treasury in managing cash flow and financial forecasting.
  • Ensuring comprehensive financial oversight and monitoring, which includes the development, implementation, and enhancement of sound fiscal management practices and internal controls.
  • Managing the effective tracking, administration, and reporting of pledge revenue and accounts receivable.
  • Facilitating the timely collection of outstanding pledge receivables and reconciling open balances, including identifying and writing off uncollectible pledges.
  • Supervising monthly accounting activities, including donor transactions and financial tracking of grants and restricted contributions.
  • Establishing a robust contract management reporting system; ensuring financial data and cash flow are stable and meet operational needs.
  • Analyzing and presenting financial reports accurately and promptly; developing financial reporting materials for all donor segments and overseeing project/program and grants accounting.
  • Coordinating and leading the annual audit and tax return preparation process; liaising with external auditors and the finance and audit committees of the board.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulatory filings for the organization and its associated foundation.
  • Providing support to the finance and audit committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and leadership team to implement new strategic initiatives.
  • Working with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and the leadership team to develop, implement, maintain, and enhance the strategic financial plan, providing financial insights for all strategic planning efforts.


Qualifications and Experience: The Finance Director should possess a BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance, with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management within a reputable organization. A CPA designation is preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; familiarity with Abila MIP, Blackbaud CRM, and Sage Intacct is advantageous.
