Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel is a dynamic community in Center City Philadelphia, representing approximately 375 member units and affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
Key Responsibilities
The Executive Director will oversee the comprehensive business operations and administration of BZBI.
This role involves independently establishing objectives and collaborating closely with clergy to ensure alignment with the congregation's needs and leadership goals.
The Executive Director will facilitate collaboration between staff and lay leadership to effectively meet strategic objectives.
Core responsibilities encompass managing operations, finance, member engagement and relations, development, facility oversight, human resources management, special initiatives, and support functions.
Specific Duties Include:
- Collaborating with the President, Treasurer, and Finance Committee to manage the budget and ensure compliance with financial performance standards.
- Acting as a fiduciary partner with the Finance Committee for the timely collection of annual contributions from Temple members.
- Maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with clergy and the Board of Directors to ensure alignment with the congregation's strategic vision.
- Partnering with the Board of Directors and various committees on strategy, communication, programming, technology, and risk management (including compliance with laws and safety protocols).
- Overseeing human resources to ensure adherence to HR policies, including annual performance evaluations.- Managing the upkeep, safety, and security of the multi-use facility, which includes administrative, religious, food service, and maintenance areas.
- Maintaining a professional presence at BZBI events, fostering relationships with congregants, and addressing community concerns promptly.
- Collaborating with the Early Childhood Director, Director of Congregational Learning, and Teen Programming Coordinator to support their initiatives.
- Supervising office, custodial, and security personnel.
- Identifying and enhancing opportunities for contributions, including special projects, annual campaigns, and grants.
- Performing additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- A minimum of seven years of senior management experience in finance, development/fundraising, human resources, administration, facilities management, and technology.
- Strong business acumen with a proven track record of managing both human and financial resources to mitigate risks and reduce costs.
- Demonstrated ability to (1) develop and execute strategic plans, (2) comprehend financial strategies and performance metrics, (3) cultivate strong collaborative relationships, (4) create effective internal and external communications, and (5) exhibit leadership in business operations with experience in management and governance models.
- Expertise in hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Knowledge of Judaism and Jewish culture is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range:
$100K - $125K, based on experience
