Position Overview:

The Senior Chemical Engineering Specialist will engage in advanced engineering tasks related to the functionality of chemical processing equipment and methodologies. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of sophisticated principles, theories, and concepts within the propulsion sector, along with familiarity in associated fields such as thermal dynamics, structural integrity, and ballistic evaluations. A deep-rooted knowledge and practical experience with energetic materials, solid propellants, and their derivatives are essential. The candidate should possess significant expertise in physics-driven modeling concerning relevant technologies, including polymer behavior, environmental impacts, aging processes, combustion phenomena, detonation mechanics, particle arrangement, and rheological properties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development and formulation of propellants/explosives for product innovation, scaling, and production.
  • Synthesis and manufacturing of energetic materials.
  • Conducting hazards analysis for energetic materials, alongside testing and formulating mitigation strategies.
  • Advancing case bondline development, processing techniques, and adhesion science.
  • Executing physical evaluations and characterizations of propellants and their subsystems.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have experience in the following areas:

  • Formulation and development of propellants/explosives for product innovation and manufacturing.
  • Synthesis and production of energetic materials.
  • Hazards analysis, testing, and mitigation strategy development for energetic materials.
  • Case bondline development and adhesion science.
  • Physical testing and characterization of propellant systems.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related STEM discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in energetics, solid propellant, and explosive formulation.
  • Expertise in the chemical formulations of solid rocket motor propulsion.
  • In-depth knowledge of energetic material production and synthesis.
  • Extensive experience in physics-based modeling related to polymer mechanics.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is between $140,000 and $200,000, commensurate with experience.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel requirements.
