Role Summary

This entry-level Surgical Technician role involves working under the guidance of the surgical team in the Operating Room, providing essential patient care throughout the surgical process. You will assist the Surgeon by ensuring the availability of necessary instruments and maintaining the organization of operating room equipment. This position requires adherence to the policies, procedures, and objectives of the department and hospital, while collaborating effectively with colleagues to deliver quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Function professionally as a Surgical Technologist during various surgical procedures.
  2. Maintain strict aseptic techniques during setup, patient draping, and throughout surgical procedures.
  3. Scrub in on surgical cases, assisting in organizing instruments and participating in surgical counts.
  4. Select and prepare appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  5. Assist with related activities under the direction of the surgeon.
  6. Conduct all counts with the circulating nurse in accordance with Operating Room protocols.
  7. Manage intraoperative medications following established policies.
  8. Handle surgical specimens as per physician orders and hospital guidelines.
  9. Follow procedures for the decontamination of instruments and room turnover.
  10. Assist in positioning, moving, and transporting patients as required.
  11. Report any equipment or supply issues to the Charge Nurse or relevant personnel.
  12. When not involved in surgical cases, assist with room turnover and obtaining necessary items during procedures.
  13. Engage in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and emergency preparedness activities.
  14. Stay informed about service-specific equipment to ensure safe and efficient use.
  15. Foster a collaborative work environment with peers and colleagues.
