Position Overview
This entry-level Surgical Technician role involves working under the guidance of the surgical team in the Operating Room to provide patient care throughout the surgical process. You will assist the Surgeon by supplying the necessary instruments and maintaining an organized surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Function professionally as a Surgical Technologist during various surgical procedures.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques during setup, patient draping, and throughout surgical procedures.
- Scrub in on surgical cases, assisting the surgeon by organizing instruments and participating in surgical counts.
- Select and prepare appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical cases.
- Perform related tasks under the direction of the surgeon.
- Conduct all counts with the circulating nurse according to Operating Room policies.
- Manage intraoperative medications in accordance with established policies.
- Handle surgical specimens following physician orders and hospital protocols.
- Adhere to Operating Room procedures for the decontamination of instruments and room turnover.
- Assist in the positioning, moving, and transporting of patients as required.
- Report any equipment or supply issues to the Charge Nurse or Clinical Nursing Director.
- When not engaged in surgical cases, assist with obtaining necessary items and participate in room turnover activities.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and emergency preparedness within the Operating Room.
- Stay informed about service-specific equipment to ensure safe and efficient use.
- Foster a collaborative work environment with peers and colleagues.
