Position Overview

This role is an entry-level Surgical Technician position that operates under the guidance of the surgical team within the Operating Room, ensuring quality patient care throughout the surgical process. The Surgical Technician assists the Surgeon by providing necessary instruments and maintaining the organization of operating room equipment. This position adheres to the policies, procedures, and objectives of the department and the healthcare facility, working collaboratively with other departments to ensure a high standard of healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Exhibit professionalism as a Surgical Technologist during various surgical procedures.
  2. Maintain strict aseptic techniques during setup, patient draping, and throughout surgical procedures.
  3. Scrub in on surgical cases, assisting the surgeon by organizing instruments and participating in surgical counts.
  4. Execute related tasks under the direction of the surgeon.
  5. Conduct all counts with the circulating nurse in accordance with Operating Room policies.
  6. Manage intraoperative medications following Operating Room protocols.
  7. Handle surgical specimens per physician orders and hospital policies.
  8. Adhere to Operating Room procedures for the proper decontamination of instruments, equipment, and room turnover.
  9. Assist in the positioning, moving, and transporting of patients as necessary.
  10. Report any equipment or supply issues to the Charge Nurse or Clinical Nursing Director as required.
  11. Engage in Operating Room activities related to quality improvement, continuing education, and emergency preparedness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility, military training in surgical technology, or graduation from an accredited Surgical Tech Program.
  • Less than 12 months of healthcare experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
