Position: Earth Science and Environmental Studies Educator - Tenure Track

Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate Earth Science Professor with a focus on Native and Environmental Science to enhance our Earth Science Department. This tenure-track role involves the redesign and expansion of our Earth Science curriculum, integrating both Western and Indigenous scientific perspectives. The successful candidate will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with departments such as Physics, Engineering, Biology, and Kumeyaay Studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive curriculum in Earth Science, including laboratory exercises and field study opportunities.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives, particularly with local Indigenous communities, to promote sustainability and environmental awareness.
- Support the California Indian Education Act and enhance educational experiences through equity and inclusivity.
- Collaborate with colleagues to foster connections across various disciplines, supporting historically marginalized groups.
- Contribute to the college's mission of increasing equitable access and promoting environmental sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in geology, earth sciences, or a related field.
- Experience in teaching Earth Science concepts effectively in an active learning environment.
- Ability to develop hands-on learning experiences and maintain laboratory exercises.
- Commitment to professional development in equity and diversity.
- Proficiency in current technology and software relevant to Earth Science education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in developing courses that incorporate Indigenous scientific methodologies.
- Ability to design engaging learning experiences using the natural environment.
- Proficiency in additional languages to support diverse student populations.
