Job Summary:
The Grossmont Union High School District is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Driver Instructor to join its team. As a Driver Instructor, you will be responsible for providing behind-the-wheel training and classroom instruction to school bus drivers, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to transport students safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct classroom training sessions to review bus drivers' and applicants' driving skills and comply with state certification requirements.
- Coordinate activities, such as driving tests, CHP tests, and classes, to ensure the availability of facilities and equipment and deliver services in accordance with established guidelines.
- Inspect contractors' equipment, licenses, certificates, medical exams, and log books when under contract with the District to transport students on activity trips, ensuring adherence to District and/or State requirements.
- Instruct school bus drivers and applicants in behind-the-wheel training and address school bus regulations/safety procedures.
- Interpret and implement the California Code of Regulations, Vehicle Code for bus and commercial drivers, ensuring compliance with established regulations.
- Investigate the safety of school bus stops as directed, recommending alternate solutions to ensure optimum levels of safety.
- Maintain a variety of manual and electronic documents, records, and/or files to document activities, provide reliable information, and comply with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Monitor the performance of bus drivers and applicants to ensure that state-mandated skill levels are met and are in compliance with state certification requirements.
- Perform functions of bus drivers and bus attendants as needed to meet student transportation requirements.
- Plan, develop, and implement procedures for all training of school bus drivers and District commercial licensed drivers as directed by the Bus Operations Supervisor, ensuring compliance with established regulations.
- Prepare training records and schedules to identify training needs for new and experienced bus drivers.
- Process training hours to ensure accurate and up-to-date reference.
Requirements:
- SKILLS: Training in group and individual settings, applying assessment instruments, adhering to safety practices, administering first aid, preparing and maintaining accurate records, and operating various types of buses under varying driving conditions.
- KNOWLEDGE: Safety practices and procedures, provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of school buses, first aid practices, methods and practices of driver instruction and training.
- ABILITY: Scheduling activities and/or meetings, gathering, collating, and/or classifying data, and using basic, job-related equipment.
