Role Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the Earth Science Department, focusing on integrating Western and Indigenous scientific perspectives.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes sustainability and environmental awareness.
- Design laboratory exercises and coordinate field studies to enhance hands-on learning experiences.
- Engage in community outreach, particularly with local indigenous communities, to promote Earth Science education.
- Collaborate with various departments to foster interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Support the California Indian Education Act and enhance educational experiences through equity and inclusivity.
Qualifications:
Necessary:
- Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience in teaching Earth Science concepts effectively.
- Ability to create engaging laboratory and field study opportunities.
- Commitment to supporting historically marginalized groups.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Preferred:
- Proficiency in additional languages.
- Experience in developing courses that incorporate indigenous methodologies.
- Ability to design hands-on learning experiences using local resources.
General Responsibilities:
Under administrative guidance, the instructor will participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that support student growth and align with the college's mission and values.
