Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Earth Science Professor with a specialization in Native and Environmental Science to lead our Earth Science Department. This tenure-track role will focus on redesigning and expanding our Earth Science curriculum by integrating both Western and Indigenous scientific perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining a robust Earth Science curriculum.
- Designing engaging laboratory exercises and coordinating field study opportunities.
- Engaging in community outreach and promoting sustainable practices.
- Collaborating with various departments to enhance interdisciplinary learning.
- Supporting the California Indian Education Act and enriching educational experiences through equity and inclusivity.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A Master's degree in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography, or paleontology.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate Earth Science concepts effectively.
- Experience in developing hands-on learning experiences and public outreach initiatives.
- Sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:
- Proficiency in additional languages to support diverse student populations.
- Experience in integrating Indigenous scientific methodologies into the curriculum.
- Ability to foster relationships with Native communities for educational program development.
General Responsibilities
Under administrative guidance, the instructor will engage in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that foster student growth and align with the college's mission and values.
