Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Engagement to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to engage alumni and friends of the university, with a focus on building strong relationships and fostering a sense of community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Annual Giving Program
    • Develop and execute annual giving strategies to increase alumni participation and giving.
    • Manage and coordinate annual appeals, including mailings and campaigns.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and cultivate major gift prospects.
  • Donor Relations and Stewardship
    • Develop and implement stewardship plans to recognize and thank donors for their support.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to create internal and external communication pieces that promote the university's mission and goals.
    • Provide exceptional customer service to alumni and donors, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Strategic Initiatives
    • Develop and analyze annual work plans and schedules with milestones and report progress to senior leadership.
    • Improve processes and procedures by providing feedback, recommendations, and participating in focus groups.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and prioritize strategic initiatives that align with the university's goals and objectives.
  • Department Communications
    • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to engage alumni and friends of the university.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to create internal and external communication pieces that promote the university's mission and goals.
    • Provide exceptional customer service to alumni and donors, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization, or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience
    • Prior experience in a college or university setting, with a focus on alumni relations and engagement.
    • Knowledge of fundraising principles, methods, and standards.
    • Expertise in developing solicitation strategies and managing annual giving campaigns.
    • Ability to work strategically, develop and implement constituency programs and activities, and motivate volunteers.
    • Competency in problem-solving, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a broad constituency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, internet browsers, and donor database software.
    • Experience in a data-driven environment, with organizational skills and the ability to lead, influence, and motivate others.
