Role Summary:

Student Advising - Provide guidance to students concerning academic requirements, institutional policies, available resources, and suitable course selections aligned with their career goals. Conduct personalized meetings with students to assist in choosing appropriate minors or certificates, addressing degree-related concerns, and ensuring they meet graduation criteria. Manage degree tracking and course verification for all PSM students and confirm their graduation eligibility. Support students on academic probation by collaborating with them and faculty to develop recovery plans. Handle student petitions, major changes, and degree audits in accordance with institutional deadlines. Work in partnership with off-campus academic coordinators and advisors for statewide programs, maintaining accurate records for all PSM information and student documentation. Facilitate orientation sessions for transfer students majoring in Plant Science and act as a primary communication channel for PSM enrollees. Collaborate with the PSM Director on problem-solving and decision-making related to student academic matters, and work with the Steering Committee to gather data on program performance and challenges to enhance advising and mentoring processes.

Marketing and Recruitment - Collaborate with the PSM Director and Steering Committee to create an annual recruitment strategy, budget, and promotional materials in conjunction with the college Dean's office and relevant departments. Develop and manage marketing content related to the PSM and its courses. Organize campus tours for prospective students and participate in career fairs and outreach events at two-year colleges and high schools to promote the PSM and other majors within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Plan and execute recruitment events on campus, engage with industry groups, and deliver presentations to interested parties. Create content for the program's website, social media accounts, and newsletters, ensuring effective communication through various channels. Participate in college events such as welcome activities, tours, and fairs.

Administrative Responsibilities - Support the Plant Science Committee and PSM Director as required. Collaborate with departmental course schedulers to monitor PSM-related courses, maintain updated course-tracking spreadsheets, and ensure timely offering of required classes for PSM students. Prepare reports on student academic assessments and maintain contact information for employers, alumni, and faculty who provide internship opportunities. Assist the PSM Director in managing program resources and tracking incoming students across statewide locations to ensure they receive adequate support.

Scholarship and Recognition Programs - Assist departments with scholarship nominations for PSM students and communicate available scholarship opportunities. Prepare nominations for student awards and maintain records of scholarships and recognitions for PSM participants.

Additional Duties - Responsibilities may vary based on program needs and funding. Assist in creating recruitment materials, conducting student recruitment studies, and preparing proposals for funding related to recruitment and scholarships.

Expected Salary:
$55,000 - $65,000

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in education, counseling, or a relevant academic field (Plant Science related) and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related academic field and two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in student data management using Excel. Experience with learning management systems, preferably Canvas. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments effectively. Experience in an academic or industry role related to plant sciences, with a willingness to learn more. Background in program promotion, marketing, or recruitment. Familiarity with integrated systems and analytics in student information systems.
