Academic Advisor II
Role Overview:
Student Advising - Provide guidance to students on academic prerequisites, institutional policies, available resources, and suitable course selections aligned with their career objectives. Conduct personalized consultations to assist students in choosing appropriate minors or certificates, addressing any academic challenges, ensuring they meet graduation criteria, and preparing them for future professional endeavors. Manage degree audits and course verification for all PSM students and validate their graduation eligibility. Support students on academic probation by collaborating with them and faculty to create recovery plans. Process requests for major changes, double majors, and degree audits in accordance with institutional deadlines. Liaise with external academic coordinators and advisors for statewide programs and maintain comprehensive records for all PSM-related information and student data.
Marketing and Recruitment - Collaborate with the PSM Director and Steering Committee to devise an annual recruitment strategy, budget, and promotional materials in partnership with the college administration and core program departments. Develop and manage marketing content related to the PSM and its courses. Organize campus tours and introductions for prospective students. Participate in career fairs and outreach to community colleges and high schools to promote the PSM and other majors within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Plan and execute recruitment events, engage with industry stakeholders, and deliver presentations to interested groups. Create engaging content for the program's website, social media platforms, and newsletters.
Administrative Responsibilities - Support the Plant Science Committee and PSM Director with various administrative tasks. Coordinate with departmental course schedulers to monitor PSM-related courses, maintain course-tracking systems, and ensure timely availability of required classes for PSM students. Generate reports on student academic performance and maintain a database of contacts for employers, alumni, and faculty who provide internship opportunities. Assist the PSM Director in managing program resources and tracking incoming students to ensure they receive appropriate mentorship and support.
Scholarship and Recognition Programs - Aid collaborating departments in identifying scholarship opportunities and preparing nominations for PSM students. Communicate available scholarships to students and assist scholarship committees with relevant student information. Oversee documentation of scholarships, awards, and recognitions received by PSM students.
Additional Duties - Responsibilities may vary based on program needs and funding availability. Assist in creating recruitment videos, conducting student recruitment research, preparing funding proposals for scholarships and events, and performing other assigned tasks.
Expected Salary:
$55,000 - $65,000
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in education, counseling, or a relevant academic field (related to Plant Science) and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a relevant academic field and two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in student data management using Excel. Experience with learning management systems, preferably Canvas. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments effectively. Experience in an academic or industry role related to plant sciences, along with a willingness to learn more. Background in program promotion, marketing, or recruitment. Familiarity with integrated systems like SalesForce and Enterprise Analytics Student Information Systems.
