Academic Advisor II

Role Summary:

Student Advising - Provide guidance to students on academic requirements, institutional policies, available resources, and suitable course selections aligned with their career goals. Conduct individual consultations to assist students in choosing appropriate minors or certificates, resolving degree-related issues, and ensuring they meet graduation criteria. Manage degree audits and course verification for all PSM students, confirming their eligibility for graduation. Support students on academic probation by collaborating with them and faculty to create recovery plans. Process student petitions, major changes, and degree audits in accordance with institutional deadlines. Collaborate with external academic coordinators and advisors for statewide programs, maintaining comprehensive records for all PSM-related information and student data. Facilitate orientation sessions for transfer students in Plant Science and serve as a primary communication liaison for PSM students. Work closely with the PSM Director on academic issues and data collection to enhance advising processes.

Marketing and Recruitment - Assist the PSM Director and committee in developing an annual recruitment strategy and budget, along with promotional materials in collaboration with the college administration. Create and manage marketing content for the PSM and related courses. Organize campus tours for prospective students and represent the program at career fairs and educational events, promoting PSM and other CALS majors. Plan recruitment activities and collaborate with industry partners to deliver presentations to interested groups. Generate content for websites, newsletters, and social media platforms to enhance program visibility. Participate in college events to engage with the community and promote the program.

Administrative Responsibilities - Support the Plant Science Committee and PSM Director in various administrative tasks. Collaborate with departmental course schedulers to ensure timely offering of required courses for PSM students. Prepare reports on student academic performance and maintain contact information for employers and alumni to facilitate internship opportunities. Assist the PSM Director in managing program resources and tracking incoming students to ensure they receive adequate support.

Scholarship and Recognition Programs - Collaborate with departments to manage scholarship nominations and communicate opportunities to PSM students. Prepare nominations for student awards and maintain records of scholarships and recognitions for PSM participants.

Additional Responsibilities - Duties may vary based on program needs. Assist in creating recruitment materials, conducting studies, and preparing proposals for funding and events as required.

Expected Salary:
$55,000 - $65,000

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in education, counseling, or a related academic field (Plant Science) with one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data management. Experience with learning management systems, preferably Canvas. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize and coordinate tasks effectively. Experience in plant sciences or related fields, along with a passion for continuous learning. Background in program promotion, marketing, or recruitment is advantageous. Familiarity with integrated systems and analytics in student information management.
