Position Overview


We are in search of a seasoned Science & Engineering Program/Project Manager who will orchestrate and implement intricate science and/or engineering initiatives that necessitate rigorous program/project management.

In this role, you will:

  • Assume overall leadership and accountability for comprehensive program/project management duties.
  • Guide cross-functional teams comprising scientists, engineers, project management professionals, and business staff within a complex organizational structure.
  • Make informed technical and programmatic recommendations in alignment with leadership, stakeholder interests, and sponsor expectations.
  • Act as a reliable primary liaison to customers and sponsors.
  • Exhibit awareness of the broader Sandia/NNSA ecosystem through relationships, recognized requirements, partnerships, and collaborative efforts.
  • Formulate, define, and implement project plans, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Generate project cost estimates and identify strategic resource requirements.
  • Develop, refine, and/or present communication strategies and materials to both internal and external audiences.
  • Identify, articulate, and manage technical and programmatic risks, including supply chain and geopolitical concerns.
  • Recognize and manage programmatic opportunities to maintain a balanced portfolio in the nation's best interest.
  • Coordinate with various entities to execute strategies ensuring government access to critical microelectronics.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and operations personnel to achieve sustainment strategies.
  • Build and nurture trust-based relationships across teams and with external partners.

The selected candidate may work remotely from any U.S. State or the District of Columbia, with potential travel to the assigned work location.


Salary Range


$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary range is an estimate; actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.


Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with eight (8) years of relevant technical experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM field with four (4) years of relevant technical experience.
  • Current PMP certification or the ability to obtain it within 12 months.
  • Capability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications Desired
  • Experience in technical management processes such as lifecycle management, requirements engineering, and risk management.
  • Proficiency in developing tools and processes to enhance the management of science and engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills, including effective collaboration with leadership, customers, and technical teams.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing large-scale, complex technical responsibilities.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts.
  • Experience in establishing credibility with scientists, engineers, and project teams.
  • Broad understanding of Sandia's mission areas and capabilities.
  • Experience in managing large or complex assets.
  • Knowledge of microsystems and their production processes.

The MESA Sustainment team is dedicated to ensuring U.S. Government access to critical microelectronics for national security missions.

Our responsibilities include planning, coordination, and execution of various programs and investments to maintain and strategically enhance MESA capabilities through 2040.

Our team operates in a highly collaborative environment, relying on effective partnerships within MESA and with external stakeholders.


Security Clearance


Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. A federal background investigation will be conducted for those offered employment.
