Your Role

Are you driven by your work and eager to be part of a vibrant team tackling critical challenges for our nation's security? The Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Radiation Protection (RP) Organization is in search of a Lead Engineer for Radiation Protection Training Programs. This role focuses on overseeing the Radiation Protection Training and Education (RPTE) Program, which delivers essential radiation protection training to our workforce and manages training for RP personnel.

The selected candidate will provide direct leadership and oversight to Training Specialists and Radiological Engineers within the RPTE. As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in RP, you will serve as the primary contact for all RP training services.

In this capacity, you will leverage your engineering expertise to collaborate with program stakeholders to identify and negotiate training requirements that align with mission objectives. You will develop the training program framework to meet these needs, defining necessary subsystems and components to achieve desired outcomes. Your responsibilities will include planning and directing the execution of all training related to radiological protection, ensuring alignment with project goals.

On a typical day, your tasks may include:
  • Supervising RPTE personnel to ensure effective implementation of training requirements.
  • Defining training system requirements, project scopes, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Negotiating project deliverables with internal and external stakeholders, leading the training program and its staff.
  • Applying advanced project management techniques to develop training project plans and schedules.
  • Managing resources to ensure project objectives are met according to established plans.
  • Overseeing project teams from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Providing expert guidance on radiological engineering and health physics to internal and external clients.
  • Leading the development and implementation of key training elements for the RPTE Program.
Additionally, you will be responsible for:
  • Conducting programmatic evaluations and implementing improvements based on metrics analysis.
  • Leading curriculum advisory committees and technical projects.
  • Supporting emergency response training and participating in audits and assessments.
  • Assisting in the recruitment and qualification of new RP personnel.
  • Delivering progress reports and conducting project reviews to assess performance.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Work is dynamic, and responsibilities may shift based on organizational needs. Some travel may be necessary, and the role involves working with hazardous materials.
