Your Role:

Are you driven by a passion for your work and eager to join a vibrant team addressing critical challenges for our nation's security? The Radiation Protection (RP) organization at Sandia National Laboratories is looking for an Engineering Program/Project Manager to lead Radiation Protection Operations, specifically for Line Support Team 6. This role supports various mission areas, including Infrastructure Operations, National Security Programs, and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Management.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading and overseeing the activities of Radiological Control Technicians (RCTs) and Radiological Engineers to ensure effective implementation of RP services.
  • Providing expert guidance to RP customers regarding the management of radiological hazards in diverse environments.
  • Advising on the application of DOE regulations and SNL policies.
  • Assisting RP management with resource allocation decisions.
  • Reviewing and approving Safety Basis and Radiological Technical Work Documents.
  • Representing RP in Safety Committees and work planning committees.
  • Conducting technical analyses on shielding, containment, and radiological monitoring.
  • Leading RP technical projects and working groups.
  • Developing technical documentation to support RP program requirements.
  • Participating in internal and external audits as an RP subject matter expert.
  • Training personnel and customers in RP service implementation.
  • Offering expertise in radiation protection for emergency management scenarios.

This role requires adaptability, as the work environment is dynamic and may necessitate travel. Candidates should be prepared to engage with hazardous materials and navigate various safety concerns.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 5 years of relevant operational Health Physics experience for the Senior level, or 8 years for the Principal level.
  • Familiarity with 10CFR835, 10CFR830, and/or 10CFR20.
  • Proficient computer skills, including word processing and database applications.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q-level security clearance.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • An ABET-accredited master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in operational health physics project management.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.
