Job Overview:


Western Enterprises is seeking a Purchasing Manager who will oversee the procurement of components across our manufacturing and assembly facilities. This pivotal role requires collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Operations teams on a daily basis.


This highly visible position is responsible for managing all facets of inventory planning, process enhancements, cost efficiency, supplier development, and maintaining supplier relationships. The ability to mentor and guide team members is crucial.

5 Direct reports including domestic and international procurement specialists across all locations.

Key Responsibilities:
Include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the Purchasing department to support operations across three facilities.
- Collaborating with top suppliers to ensure timely delivery of essential components and materials.
- Assisting the Purchasing Team in resolving supplier-related challenges.
- Guaranteeing a consistent supply of materials to facilitate production and assembly.
- Identifying and assessing alternative cost-effective suppliers to mitigate risks associated with single sourcing.

- Striving to reduce overall purchased inventory as a percentage of revenue while strategically enhancing safety stock levels to minimize production disruptions.

- Conducting regular training sessions to ensure the Purchasing Team adheres to established purchasing policies and processes.

- Streamlining purchasing operations and implementing process improvements.

- Analyzing demand trends with the sales team to optimize finished goods inventory while preventing stockouts and excess.

- Coordinating with Engineering to align new product launches and manage component obsolescence effectively.

- Driving continuous cost improvements for purchased goods and components.


- Actively identifying and nurturing new supplier relationships while reinforcing existing partnerships.
- Mentoring direct reports to cultivate a motivated and engaged Purchasing Team.
- Developing and maintaining supplier performance metrics.
- Managing annual contracts and service agreements.
- Overseeing production outsourcing as necessary.
- Leading cost reduction initiatives within the department.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following:

Knowledge:
- Expertise in procurement practices and negotiation strategies.
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and inventory management principles.
- Understanding of inventory planning, safety stock calculations, and replenishment systems.
- Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of MAPICS/Infor XA is a plus.

Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years in a similar capacity, preferably within a manufacturing or assembly context.
- Comprehensive understanding of MRP/ERP systems and inventory replenishment methodologies.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and their application in procurement.

Certificates:
- APICS CPM or CPIM certification is desirable but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements:


The physical demands for this role include:
- Prolonged periods of working at a computer.
- Walking on manufacturing and assembly floors and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel between facilities as needed.
