Reporting Structure:

Direct Reports: 5 domestic and international buyers across all locations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Purchasing department, ensuring support for manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Engage with key suppliers to guarantee timely delivery of critical materials.
  • Assist the Purchasing Team in resolving supplier-related challenges.
  • Maintain a continuous supply of materials to facilitate production and assembly.
  • Identify and assess alternative cost-effective suppliers to minimize dependency on single sources.
  • Strategically manage purchased inventory levels to optimize revenue and safety stock.
  • Conduct training sessions to ensure adherence to purchasing policies and processes.
  • Enhance purchasing workflows and implement improvements.
  • Analyze demand trends with the sales team to manage finished goods inventory effectively.
  • Procure adequate seasonal inventory based on sales forecasts.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to synchronize new product launches and manage component obsolescence.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives related to purchased goods.
  • Proactively identify and develop new supplier partnerships while nurturing existing relationships.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to direct reports to cultivate a motivated Purchasing Team.
  • Establish monthly and quarterly supplier performance metrics.
  • Manage annual contracts and service agreements.
  • Coordinate outsourcing efforts as necessary.
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives within the Purchasing department.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Knowledge Required:

  • Understanding of purchasing practices and negotiation strategies.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Expertise in inventory management and calculations.
  • Knowledge of Kanban systems and multi-level BOMs.
  • Experience in high mix/low volume environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of MAPICS/Infor XA is a plus.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a manufacturing or assembly context.
  • In-depth knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and inventory replenishment methodologies.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.

Certifications:

APICS CPM or CPIM certification is advantageous but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods and navigate manufacturing environments. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and travel between facilities as needed.
