Job Summary:

Western Enterprises is seeking a highly skilled Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement efforts and drive inventory optimization across our manufacturing and assembly sites. This role requires a strong understanding of purchasing practices, negotiation techniques, and inventory management principles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic procurement plans to ensure a steady flow of purchased components and materials.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to negotiate favorable terms and ensure timely delivery of critical components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Engineering, and Operations, to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of our inventory levels, demand history, and customer purchasing trends to inform procurement decisions.
  • Implement and maintain a robust inventory management system to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of inventory levels.
  • Develop and maintain a supplier rating system to evaluate and improve supplier performance.
  • Identify and evaluate alternative lower-cost sources of supply to reduce single and sole sourcing.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training program to ensure that the Purchasing Team is knowledgeable and following prescribed purchasing policies, stock levels, and processes.
  • Streamline the purchasing process and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing and/or assembly environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of MRP/ERP logic and alternate inventory replenishment systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to summarize and analyze data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and lead people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • APICS CPM or CPIM certification.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and methodology.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and MAPICS/Infor XA.
Work Environment:

Western Enterprises is a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing and assembly environment. The successful candidate will be required to work in an office setting, as well as on the manufacturing and assembly floors, and will be expected to travel between plants as needed.
