Job Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining the physical facilities of the Stoughton Area School District to provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient environment for students, staff, and the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure the upkeep of the district's facilities, including snow removal, equipment setup and takedown, cleaning, and maintenance of buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

**Essential Functions:**

1. Assist with snow removal and ensure necessary areas are free of snow to ensure safe passage.
2. Set up and take down equipment for events and activities.
3. Perform tasks such as sweeping, mopping floors, washing walls and windows, climbing ladders, vacuuming carpets, moving furniture, waxing floors, realigning desks and chairs, emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, dumping waste, and picking up litter from grounds.
4. Maintain buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, in a neat and clean condition at all times.
5. Monitor heating and air conditioning systems to ensure optimal performance.
6. Open and close campus buildings for school and community functions, as well as perform security checks.
7. Operate and maintain custodial equipment to ensure efficient and effective cleaning and maintenance.
8. Restock disposable items and maintain proper inventory of custodial supplies in the building and ensure their safe use.
9. Identify and implement security procedures to ensure the safety and security of the district's facilities and personnel.
10. Prevent, identify, and remove safety hazards to ensure a safe working environment.
11. Work cooperatively with the Custodial Operations and Buildings and Grounds supervisors, building principals, staff, students, parents, and the community to respond to issues of immediate concern.
12. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and follow written and verbal instructions.
13. Comply with the Absence Policies of the Stoughton Area School District.

Requirements

**Education and Experience:**

1. High school education or equivalent.
2. Excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, parents, community, and outside suppliers/vendors.
3. Ability to work with a diverse population of individuals.
4. Good manual and mechanical ability.
5. Ability to work independently in a variety of environmental situations, including inside buildings, outside buildings, and confined spaces.
6. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

**Constantly:**

1. Bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching, and stair climbing to perform essential job functions.

**Occasionally:**

1. Lifting over 50 pounds.

**The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands:**

1. Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
2. Frequent climbing and balancing.
3. Significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
4. Significant fine finger dexterity.

**Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:**

1. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

**Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:**

1. **SKILLS:** Required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
2. **KNOWLEDGE:** Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; understand written procedures; write routine documents; and speak clearly.
3. **ABILITY:** Required to plan and prepare for building activities and events, and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
