Position Overview:

This role is exclusively available to current employees within the Snohomish County Human Services Department.

Objective:
Snohomish County Human Services is seeking a dedicated professional to execute comprehensive accounting tasks for designated social service initiatives financed by local funds, as well as Federal and State grants.

This position requires on-site presence.

About You:
You are committed to delivering exceptional service to all stakeholders, including internal staff and external clients. Your expertise in accounting principles and internal controls is well-established, and you possess a proven track record of relevant experience. You adapt swiftly to evolving grantor stipulations and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, taking pride in your contributions. You excel in a dynamic environment and can manage pressures to meet deadlines effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary function of this role is to ensure accurate and timely processing of accounting entries and reports for the Human Services Department. This will be achieved through independent efforts, supported by a collaborative fiscal and administrative team along with departmental leadership.

Essential Duties:
- Maintain and oversee departmental administrative and program ledgers.
- Verify and prepare accounting entries, including journal vouchers and accounts receivable billings.
- Reconcile departmental ledgers with the county financial system and rectify discrepancies.
- Assist in the development of budgets for the department, grant applications, and subcontractors.
- Monitor expenditures and generate budget reports as required.
- Analyze revenue, expenditure, and cash flow trends for various grants, recommending budget adjustments as necessary.
- Review financial records of sub-recipients to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and prepare reports on financial activities.
- Evaluate proposals and contracts to ensure adherence to state, federal, and local requirements.

Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of professional accounting experience, or a combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant in Washington State may substitute for educational requirements.

Preferred Experience:
Prior accounting experience within a governmental agency is highly desirable.

Special Requirements:
A valid Washington State Driver's License may be necessary.

Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of governmental accounting principles and practices.
- Familiarity with budgetary processes and internal control mechanisms.
- Proficiency in using Windows-based applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to analyze financial records and identify procedural issues.

Supervision:
This position operates under limited supervision from an administrative manager, with guidance provided by the Financial Systems Group.

Work Environment:
The role is primarily office-based, with occasional field visits as required.
