DelDOT is Offering Recruitment Incentives for Engineers

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) acknowledges that its Engineers are essential assets, playing a vital role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the State's infrastructure. To attract new talent, we are introducing financial recruitment incentives for new Engineers in accordance with our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The incentive program includes:

Sign-On Bonus – Incentives vary by position classification:

$4,000 for Junior Engineer $5,000 for Engineer II $6,000 for Engineer III $7,000 for Engineer IV

Bonuses will be disbursed three months after the start date of employment. New hires accepting this recruitment incentive must commit to two consecutive years of employment within the Engineer I-IV series. This offer is valid for individuals who are new to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State.

Position Summary

This role within the Division of Planning, Development Coordination Section, entails responsibilities for traffic engineering and analysis, reviewing proposed development projects across the State of Delaware. The Engineer will provide guidance to local land-use agencies regarding the anticipated transportation impacts of these projects and identify necessary infrastructure improvements to address those impacts. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as operational needs dictate.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are fundamental to all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties for any single position:

Drafts, develops, and modifies engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
Reviews permit applications, blueprints, and designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with relevant specifications and regulations.
Applies scientific and mathematical principles to research and devise solutions to technical challenges.
Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research, and development projects, inspections, and investigations to gather data and ensure adherence to state and federal laws and regulations.
Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
Reviews, analyzes, and reports on project status and regulatory compliance.
Develops cost estimates for project timelines and materials.
Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff.

Job Requirements for Engineer I

Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

A Bachelor's degree or higher (or an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the engineering disciplines listed below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in one or more of the engineering disciplines listed below. Chemical Engineering Electrical Engineering Civil Engineering Construction Engineering Environmental Engineering Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering Agricultural Engineering
