The State of Delaware is excited to announce the availability of Sign-on Bonuses for new Engineers.
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) acknowledges that its Engineers are an essential asset, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the State's infrastructure.
To recognize this, we are now offering financial recruitment incentives to new DelDOT Engineers as part of our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.
Incentive Details:
Sign-On Bonus amounts are determined by the position classification:
$4,000 for Engineer I
$5,000 for Engineer II
$6,000 for Engineer III
$7,000 for Engineer IV
These incentives will be disbursed three months after the start date of employment.
New hires accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to a minimum of two consecutive years of employment with DelDOT in the Engineer I-IV series.
This opportunity is exclusively for new hires to the State of Delaware or those new to the Engineer classification series within the State.Important Note:
Further details will be provided during the hiring process. This program is managed by the Department of Transportation's Human Resources – Employment Services section and may be subject to termination by the Department at any time without prior notice.
Position Overview
This engineering role involves ensuring that subdivision, construction, and commercial entrance plans comply with current DelDOT standards and regulations.
The selected candidate will collaborate with local land use agencies to foster a predictable approval process for developers and citizens, coordinate land-use proposals, issue plan approvals, and fulfill other responsibilities as necessary.
Additionally, the Engineer will ensure that plans are reviewed and approved efficiently, prioritizing excellent customer service within the Development Coordination Section.

Core Responsibilities
The essential functions are fundamental duties common to all positions in this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Drafting, developing, and modifying engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
- Reviewing permit applications, blueprints, and designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
- Applying scientific and mathematical principles to research and develop solutions to technical challenges.
- Planning and conducting field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections, and investigations to gather data and ensure adherence to state and federal laws and regulations.
- Testing or evaluating materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
- Planning and coordinating engineering projects.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on project status and regulatory compliance.
- Developing cost estimates for project timelines and materials.
- Providing technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Applicants must demonstrate competence in the following areas:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher (or an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more of the engineering disciplines listed below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in one or more of the engineering disciplines listed below.
