About the Role

Crescent Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Golf Course Assistant Superintendent to join our team. As a key member of our golf course operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of our golf courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily Task Assignments: Utilize task management software to assign daily tasks to staff members, ensuring efficient and effective completion of tasks.
  • Course Setup: Oversee the setup of golf courses for play, including preparation of tees, greens, and fairways.
  • Chemical and Fertilizer Applications: Apply chemicals and fertilizers to maintain the health and appearance of the golf course.
  • Staff Training: Provide training to staff members on equipment operation and task completion.
  • Irrigation Repairs: Perform repairs and maintenance on irrigation systems to ensure optimal water distribution.
  • Payroll: Assist with payroll processing and ensure accurate payment of staff members.
  • Turfbreeze and Subair Operations: Operate and maintain Turfbreeze fans and Subair systems to control temperature and humidity.
  • Basic Knowledge of Clubhouse and Resort Systems: Possess a basic understanding of clubhouse, resort, activity center, and housing irrigation systems.
  • Communication with Pro Shop: Maintain effective communication with the pro shop to ensure seamless operations.
Requirements
  • Education: Two or four-year degree in golf course or turf grass management, or related field. Candidates with other degrees must have extensive training in turf or golf course management.
  • Experience: Two years of management experience required.
  • Certifications: GCSAA Class A or CGCS in good standing preferred. Valid Virginia pesticide/fertilizer license preferred.
  • Skills: Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods; and thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Language Skills: Comprehend reading materials, speak, read, and write English.
  • Computer Skills: Frequently use a computer.
Working Conditions

The majority of work is performed outdoors in various weather and ground conditions common to Virginia.

  • Exposure to Maintenance Equipment: Exposure to maintenance equipment, including moving parts, heights, noise, airborne debris, vibration, and fumes.
  • Maintain a Clean and Safe Work Environment: Maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible work environment.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Physical Strength and Stamina: Have physical strength, stamina, and agility at levels necessary to perform common golf course operations tasks.
  • Lifting and Moving: Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Communication and Interaction: Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public, professionally interact and participate with co-workers, and have a sense of teamwork.
