Position Overview

At Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics, we are at the forefront of developing the technological backbone that will redefine retail experiences. Our team is responsible for Alphabot, an innovative solution transforming the shopping landscape in America. Our automated systems for order pickup and delivery leverage advanced robotics and software to manage high volumes of online transactions, optimizing operations for managers and enhancing the shopping experience for customers. We are driven by our passion for technology, retail, and crafting impactful solutions for millions of customers each day.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Robot Control System team, contributing to the evolution of our automated retail technologies. In this position, you will lead the ongoing improvement and upkeep of our software, collaborating with a team of skilled engineers specializing in robot control, routing, and task management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of reactive microservices in Java that effectively manage customer orders and coordinate robot operations within our ecosystem.
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and embedded systems teams to establish clear software requirements and facilitate seamless integration with other system components.
  • Monitor and analyze critical metrics and datasets across various aspects of the robotics system.
  • Ensure that the software produced is modular, maintainable, and well-documented.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in core Java development (preferably Java 8 or later), especially in robotics or automation systems.
  • Experience in designing reactive microservices or constructing event-driven distributed systems utilizing asynchronous actors.
  • Familiarity with messaging platforms such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases and in-memory caching solutions, such as Redis or similar technologies. Familiarity with Azure DX (ADX) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP and HTTP.
  • Proficient in Unit Testing with tools like Junit, Mockito, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in agile development environments, focusing on iterative processes, feedback, and adaptability.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
