Key Responsibilities

The Senior Controls Software Engineer will play a vital role in the development of sensing, localization, motion, and actuation systems for our robotic platforms, ensuring the delivery of reliable and high-performance solutions. This role demands a proactive approach to designing, documenting, communicating, implementing, and testing software components within a sophisticated electro-mechanical framework. Your primary focus will be on crafting algorithmic solutions and deploying them with a strong emphasis on maintainability and scalability.

  • Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain robust embedded C++ modules in a real-time setting.
  • Analyze and identify electro-mechanical challenges through software-driven insights.
  • Collaborate across teams to implement localization and control algorithms effectively.
  • Adhere to programming best practices to ensure code quality.
  • Support all solutions with comprehensive unit testing.
  • Deliver scalable and resilient solutions at the software-hardware interface.
  • Engage with peers in root cause analysis of electro-mechanical and software issues, determining optimal solutions.
  • Document requirements and design specifications clearly.
Qualifications
  • Expertise in modern C++ (11/14), emphasizing object-oriented design for real-time embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of classical control theory, system modeling, and linearization techniques.
  • Understanding of digital signal processing and filtering methodologies.
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical robotics systems and their component interactions.
  • Experience with sensing and actuation technologies.
  • Proficient in device integration and communication protocols (e.g., CANopen, I2C, SPI, Serial); motor control experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to create and execute test plans, analyzing results using scripting languages (e.g., MATLAB/Python).
  • Exposure to event-driven frameworks and state machine concepts is a plus.
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (QNX, FreeRTOS, etc.) is beneficial.
  • Proficient in Linux systems, including command line navigation and basic scripting.
  • Experience with software configuration management and peer review processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adept at working in an agile, collaborative team environment.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing with colleagues.
  • A Master's degree in a technical field (or equivalent experience) with over 3 years in robotics, high-tech, or electro-mechanical industries is preferred. Formal training in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required.
