Position Summary

Individuals in this role are responsible for the design, organization, and execution of therapeutic recreation programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of clients through structured recreational activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs and executes therapeutic recreational activities tailored to the needs of assigned clients.
  • Conducts assessments and evaluations to determine clients' interests, needs, and capabilities.
  • Creates individualized intervention plans based on comprehensive evaluations and monitors clients' progress towards therapeutic goals.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive treatment plans and recommends modifications based on ongoing assessments.
  • Assists in the formulation of treatment protocols, educational resources, and specialized programs for clients.
  • Acts as a resource for the community regarding recreational therapy and related health topics.
  • Facilitates various therapeutic recreation programs for clients and their families, including outdoor adventure activities, physical fitness programs, creative arts, and special events.
  • Engages with clients in both group and individual settings, providing guidance and support in recreational activities.

Position Level

This role is considered a career level position where individuals are expected to perform at a professional level, managing recreational therapy programs of limited scope. While there are no direct supervisory duties, mentorship may be provided to less experienced staff.

Qualifications

X36A

Requires a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, physical education, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

X36B

Requires a master's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education; or a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education with one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Competencies

X36A

Knowledge of recreational therapy principles, techniques, and equipment; understanding of outdoor recreational activities; ability to establish effective working relationships; and skills in communication and independent judgment.

X36B

Advanced knowledge of recreational therapy principles, techniques, and equipment; ability to supervise recreational activities; and skills in motivating volunteers and working with diverse populations.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be willing to travel as required for the position, possess a valid driver's license, and be available for on-call duties as needed. A background check and drug screening will be required.

A trial period of 12 months will be necessary.
