Position Summary
Individuals in this role are tasked with the design, organization, and execution of therapeutic recreational programs aimed at enhancing client well-being through engaging activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute therapeutic recreational initiatives tailored to a designated group of clients.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine clients' needs, preferences, and capabilities.
- Create individualized intervention strategies based on assessments, monitoring client engagement and progress towards therapeutic goals.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to formulate comprehensive treatment plans and suggest modifications based on client feedback.
- Assist in the creation of treatment protocols, educational resources, and specialized programs for clients.
- Act as a community resource regarding recreational therapy and associated health topics.
- Facilitate various therapeutic recreation activities for clients' families and groups, including outdoor adventures, physical fitness programs, and creative arts.
- Engage with clients in active participation during recreational activities, providing coaching and support as needed.
Level Descriptor
This is a professional level position where individuals are expected to perform at a full capacity in managing recreational therapy programs of limited scope. While there are no direct supervisory duties, guidance may be offered to less experienced staff.
Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, physical education, or a closely related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
X36B
Requires a master's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education; or a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, or physical education with one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of recreational therapy principles, techniques, and equipment; familiarity with outdoor adventure activities; understanding of therapeutic goals and their relationship with other treatment modalities; and knowledge of behavior modification techniques. Ability to plan and supervise diverse recreational activities, establish effective working relationships, communicate effectively, and work with clients facing mental or physical challenges.

Special Requirements
Applicants must be prepared to undertake job-related travel, possess a valid driver's license, and be available for on-call duties as required. Background checks and drug screenings are mandatory.
A trial period of 12 months will be necessary.
