Student Support Services/Rehabilitative Movement Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Connecticut Department of Health license as a Rehabilitative Movement Specialist.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Experience in pediatric rehabilitation within educational or clinical environments, as deemed appropriate by Administration.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
JOB GOAL:
To deliver rehabilitative movement assessment and intervention services to students eligible for special education under relevant legislation, ensuring they can fully benefit from their educational experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engages as a member of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) for students referred for movement therapy needs. Adheres to professional responsibilities established by the district for PPT members.
- Provides direct and consultative rehabilitative movement services to students requiring special education based on a medical prescription.
- Conducts thorough evaluations of students utilizing appropriate assessment tools.
- Develops tailored treatment plans and educationally relevant objectives based on assessment findings and the individual needs of the student, focusing on enhancing their ability to function within the educational environment.
- Promotes the integration of movement therapy goals within the classroom and supports educational objectives through the therapy program. Instructs classroom staff on effective support techniques and supervises their implementation.
- Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team, utilizing a cooperative approach to planning and treatment with school personnel, families, and external agencies.
- Communicates effectively with parents and staff regarding the purpose and objectives of rehabilitative movement services in the educational setting.
- Establishes a constructive working relationship with parents to facilitate training and support for follow-through of movement therapy goals at home.
- Designs and fabricates adaptive equipment and devices for students and classrooms, ensuring proper maintenance.
- Keeps accurate records of services provided and collects data on student performance to evaluate progress.
- Maintains therapy equipment and materials in optimal condition.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings as necessary.
- Assists the Director of Special Education and Pupil Services in resource allocation for the therapy program.
- Stays informed on best practices for movement specialists in educational settings and engages in professional development opportunities.
- Attends required professional meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Pupil Services.
EVALUATION: Performance evaluated annually in accordance with district policies.
