Job Summary

The San Diego Tourism Authority is seeking a highly skilled and experienced National Sales Director to join our team in Chicago. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for promoting and selling San Diego as a premier destination for non-citywide conventions and meetings to the Midwest corporate and association market.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with Customers and Build Relationships: Meet in person with customers to promote and sell San Diego as a destination for conventions and meetings.
  • Generate Leads and Meet Sales Goals: Generate leads, solicitations, and meet sales goals through active sales efforts in Chicago to prospect for new customers while working with hotel sales teams to secure business for San Diego.
  • Achieve Booking Room Night Goals: Achieve monthly and yearly booking room night goals established by the Chief Sales Officer (CSO).
  • Develop and Execute a Sales Plan: Prepare and execute a sales plan to achieve the desired business outcomes, including customer retention, new customer acquisition, closing business techniques, sales activities, customer-facing events, and other tactics to achieve the sales goal.
  • Collaborate with Team Members: Serve as a strategic collaborator with fellow SDTA team members and the hotel community to achieve the destination's desired business results.
  • Advise Clients: Serve as a strategic advisor to clients to understand their meeting space needs, organization structure, goals, and objectives, and provide insights on how it can impact San Diego.
  • Stay Up-to-Date on Industry Trends: Be knowledgeable and up-to-date on San Diego happenings, competitive cities, industry trends, and other relevant information.
  • Participate in Industry Events: Participate in site familiarization programs, attend key national and local industry-related functions and events, participate in sales trips, conduct in-market client events, and attend relevant trade shows as determined by the CSO.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S) from a four-year college or university or five years related experience in a sales management role within a hotel and/or destination marketing organization.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to write and understand business correspondence, effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Ability to travel on commercial airlines, drive a car in a safe manner, attend meetings, and meet with customers in Chicago and the Midwest region. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, and be flexible to San Diego headquarters office hour needs.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to develop relationships with customers in Chicago and the Midwest region, and having contacts in the Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana markets is preferred.

Compensation

The annualized salary range for this position is $105K to $120K DOE plus incentive.
