Position Overview

This role operates under general supervision and is tasked with the investigation, assessment, reserving, negotiation, and resolution of assigned General Liability claims related to Bodily Injury and Property Damage. The position ensures high-quality claim management throughout the claim lifecycle, which includes customer interactions, coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation oversight, negotiation, and resolution, while adhering to both internal and external quality standards and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage severe claims directly.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while ensuring timely communication and thorough coverage analysis based on policy details and case specifics.
  • Consult with management regarding the engagement of Claim Coverage Counsel as necessary.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations for each claim, engaging with relevant parties such as policyholders, claimants, law enforcement, and medical professionals to ascertain liability and damages.
  • Oversee external investigations as required based on case needs.
  • Identify and coordinate appropriate internal and external resources for effective claim evaluations, including subrogation and risk control experts.
  • Review and verify injury or property damage claims through appropriate documentation.
  • Maintain organized claim files and document all activities according to established protocols.
  • Utilize evaluation tools in line with departmental guidelines.
  • Regularly review Claim File Analysis for compliance with quality standards.
  • Employ a diary management system to ensure timely claim handling and evaluate liability and damages exposure at designated intervals.
  • Establish and maintain accurate indemnity and expense reserves.
  • Recommend cases for discussion in collaborative roundtable meetings.
  • Participate in roundtables to share technical expertise and improve claim outcomes.
  • Develop and implement innovative resolution strategies.
  • Ensure prompt and appropriate resolution of claims within designated authority.
  • Negotiate claim resolutions with insured parties and their representatives.
  • Manage litigated claims by developing litigation strategies and overseeing legal expenses.
  • Attend legal proceedings as necessary and keep relevant parties updated with new information.
  • Acquire and maintain necessary insurance licenses in compliance with state and Travelers' requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in bodily injury liability claims handling or litigation.
  • Proficient in coverage interpretation, liability assessment, and litigation processes.
  • Extensive experience in evaluating complex claims.
  • Ability to make independent decisions on assigned cases.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, policy language, and effective claims handling practices.
  • Excellent negotiation and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Technologically adept with business tools for research and communication.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
