Position Overview

The Hartford Global Specialty - Financial Lines is seeking a dedicated Claims Consultant for our Employment Practices Liability (EPL) Claims Group. This role involves managing a portfolio of EPL claims from initiation through to resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations and evaluate the information gathered.
  • Assess coverage, liability, and damages based on the specifics of each claim.
  • Communicate findings and positions to insured parties and relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish and adjust expense and indemnity reserves as necessary.
  • Present cases to management for reserve authority beyond established limits.
  • Develop resolution strategies through effective negotiations to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Oversee litigation processes, including planning, budgeting, and counsel management.
  • Analyze potential extra-contractual liabilities when required.
  • Participate in trials and mediations as needed.
  • Contribute to broader organizational goals through audits, projects, and training initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior leadership regarding case developments and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with business partners to assess and address claim trends.
  • Respond to inquiries from agents and policyholders, ensuring exceptional customer service.
  • Provide training and marketing support to underwriting teams.
  • Engage in industry events to discuss risk management and claims topics.
  • Organize and lead webinars and in-house seminars for high-profile clients.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree is strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in handling litigated EPL claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain a results-oriented focus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EPL claims processes is essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and execution capabilities.
  • Advanced negotiation and technical claim handling skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and influence others.
  • Capacity to work with minimal supervision while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Work Arrangement

This position offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement, with expectations for in-office attendance based on business needs.

Compensation

The annualized base pay range for this role is between $120,000 and $180,000, influenced by performance and competencies. Additional rewards may include bonuses and long-term incentives.
