Complex Liability Claims Consultant

Position Overview:
As a Claims Consultant specializing in Complex Liability Solutions within the Hartford Global Specialty (HGS) Liability Major Case Unit, you will take charge of a diverse portfolio of claims, encompassing both bodily injury and non-bodily injury matters that present intricate coverage and liability challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Your role will involve a variety of critical tasks, including but not limited to:
- Assessing coverage and articulating written positions to insured parties and relevant stakeholders;
- Setting and monitoring appropriate expense and indemnity reserves within defined authority levels;
- Submitting cases to management for reserve authority that exceeds established limits;
- Crafting and executing resolution strategies aimed at achieving optimal outcomes;
- Overseeing litigation processes, including planning, budgeting, and bill evaluations;
- Conducting periodic claims reviews for insured clients as necessary;
- Participating in trials and mediations when required;
- Engaging in audits, projects, and product development initiatives to contribute to broader organizational goals;
- Preparing detailed reports and presenting updates to senior claims leadership regarding case developments and industry trends;
- Collaborating with third-party administrators to address time-sensitive demands and evaluate complex issues;
- Partnering with underwriters to effectively communicate the advantages of the claims model to potential clients;
- Providing analytical support to the business unit regarding claim trends for current and prospective insureds;
- Acting as a liaison between various internal departments and third-party administrators.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred;
- A minimum of seven years of experience in handling General Liability litigated coverage and liability issues;
- A results-driven mindset with a strong focus on achieving objectives;
- Exceptional analytical and organizational capabilities;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- Strategic thinking and effective task execution abilities;
- Advanced negotiation skills and expertise in technical claims handling, including a solid understanding of coverage and tort laws;
- A comprehensive grasp of high-value bodily injury claims;
- The ability to analyze complex coverage and liability matters;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team;
- A commitment to exceeding expectations and inspiring others to do the same.
Additional Information:
This position may require travel of up to 10%. The role offers flexibility with a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement, with expectations for in-office attendance as business needs dictate.
Compensation:
The annualized base pay range for this position is $101,200 - $151,800, based on market analysis of similar roles. Actual compensation may vary based on performance and proficiency. The Hartford's total compensation package includes additional rewards such as bonuses and long-term incentives.
