Position Overview:

As a vital member of our claims team, the Claims Specialist is tasked with managing a portfolio of intricate and high-stakes auto and general liability claims throughout their entire lifecycle. Given the often litigious nature of these claims, a strong background in handling legal matters and coordinating with defense attorneys is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough investigations and assess the information gathered;
  • Make informed coverage decisions and communicate findings to policyholders and relevant parties;
  • Set and adjust expense and indemnity reserves within established authority levels;
  • Present cases to management for reserve authority exceeding standard limits;
  • Develop and execute resolution strategies aimed at achieving optimal outcomes;
  • Manage litigation processes and counsel interactions, including planning, budgeting, and bill assessments;
  • Participate in trials and mediations as required;
  • Contribute to broader organizational goals through audits, projects, and product development initiatives;
  • Prepare detailed reports and present updates to senior leadership on case progress, policy matters, and industry developments;
  • Support field offices with complex coverage and liability evaluations, time-sensitive demands, and other intricate issues;
  • Collaborate with business partners to analyze and address emerging claim trends while enhancing relationships with agents and policyholders through effective communication and superior service.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is mandatory; a law degree is advantageous;
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in managing complex litigated auto and general liability claims is required;
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service;
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities;
  • Strategic thinking and execution capabilities;
  • Advanced negotiation skills and comprehensive knowledge of coverage and tort laws;

Additional Information:

This position may require travel up to 20%. A hybrid or remote work arrangement is available, with expectations for in-office work based on proximity to office locations and business needs.

Compensation:

The annualized base pay range for this role is $101,200 - $151,800, influenced by market analysis and individual performance. This figure represents only one aspect of The Hartford's comprehensive compensation package, which may also include bonuses, long-term incentives, and recognition programs.
