Role Summary:

As a Claims Specialist within our Complex Claims Unit (CCU) in the Hartford Global Specialty (HGS) Claims Division, you will manage a portfolio of intricate construction defect and bodily injury claims. This role encompasses the entire claims process, from initiation to resolution, involving both primary and excess coverages. You will navigate complex scenarios that require a thorough analysis of contractual obligations and risk transfer opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a caseload of both litigated and non-litigated construction claims under commercial general liability policies.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations and critically evaluate gathered information.
  • Make informed coverage determinations and communicate findings to insured parties and relevant stakeholders.
  • Set and monitor expense and indemnity reserves within established authority levels, adjusting as necessary.
  • Present cases to management for reserve authority exceeding established limits.
  • Develop and implement effective resolution strategies to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Manage litigation processes and collaborate with legal counsel, including planning, budgeting, and reviewing bills.
  • Participate in trials and mediations as required.
  • Contribute to broader organizational goals through involvement in audits, projects, and product development initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports and deliver presentations to senior leadership regarding case developments and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with business partners to assess and address emerging claim trends.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; a law degree is advantageous or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience managing complex litigated construction defect and bodily injury claims.
  • Familiarity with owner and contractor-controlled insurance policies and wrap policies is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient strategic thinking and execution capabilities.
  • Advanced negotiation skills and technical expertise in claims handling, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws.
  • Comprehensive understanding of damages issues related to high-value construction defect and property damage claims.
  • Ability to analyze coverage and liability issues effectively and manage time-sensitive demands.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and persuade effectively.
  • Commitment to exceeding expectations and inspiring others to do the same.
Work Arrangement:

This position offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement. Candidates located near our office locations will be expected to work in-office three days a week, while those residing further away will primarily work remotely, with occasional office visits as business needs arise.

Compensation:

The annualized base pay range for this role is $101,200 - $151,800, based on an analysis of similar positions in the market. Actual compensation may vary based on performance and demonstrated competencies. This role also includes additional rewards such as bonuses and long-term incentives.
