Position Overview

The Vice President of Capital Finance Operations plays a pivotal role within the Finance and Administration sector at Columbia University. This position is essential for overseeing the financial strategies and administrative processes that support the university's extensive facilities and operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate closely with the Vice President of Finance and Administration to spearhead the development and execution of both short-term and long-term capital planning initiatives.
  • Resource Allocation: Implement strategic recommendations for the effective allocation of resources, ensuring optimal business processes and policies are in place.
  • Financial Oversight: Supervise a team of approximately 40 professionals, guiding services that enhance the operational efficiency of Columbia University's facilities across multiple campuses.
  • Procurement Management: Establish and oversee procurement strategies, including contract negotiations, compliance monitoring, and risk management associated with construction projects.
  • Capital Finance Administration: Manage the preparation and reporting of the State of Good Repair (SOGR) capital plan, ensuring transparency in project funding and expenditures.
  • Accounts Payable Supervision: Oversee the processing of a significant volume of invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Compliance and Audit: Develop and implement processes to ensure adherence to design, contract, and code standards across all projects.
Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of eight years in a management role, with substantial experience in finance, administration, or a related field.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading teams and implementing business process improvements.
  • Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a strong emphasis on customer service and relationship management.
