Job Overview

Position Summary: BreakForth Solutions is looking for a Lead AWS Cloud Operations Engineer to enhance our team of skilled professionals. This role is contingent upon contract award and comes with comprehensive medical benefits for the employee along with a variety of additional perks.

Role Responsibilities: We are in search of a seasoned Lead Operations Cloud Engineer to support the IT Operations division for our federal client's Chief Information Officer. The successful candidate will be integral to a team that innovates, develops, and implements solutions aimed at boosting the efficiency and reliability of robust systems. Proficiency in AWS Cloud and familiarity with AWS native tools is essential. Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and Lambda is highly desirable. Experience with DevOps practices, automation, and infrastructure as code deployment is also required.

Key Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Operations team and stakeholders to facilitate the migration of applications from on-premise and other cloud platforms to AWS. Design and architect scalable applications that can be extended across various federal customer agencies and external government entities using secure and dependable infrastructure.
  • Lead and oversee a team of system engineers, administrators, and operational support personnel while coordinating with system architects, developers, and product owners to implement industry best practices.
  • Consult with vendor specialists, independent research entities, and fellow architects to identify the most suitable technologies that comply with departmental policies and technology roadmaps.
  • Analyze operational frameworks and design AWS system architectures. Utilize a comprehensive understanding of technology domains to create architectural solutions applicable across the enterprise.
  • Formulate cloud adoption strategies, define cloud application designs, and establish systems for managing, monitoring, and maintaining cloud infrastructures.
  • Oversee and automate cloud resources using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS Config, AWS Trusted Advisor, AWS CloudTrail, CloudWatch, PowerShell, Terraform, and Ansible CI/CD.
  • Devise solutions that enhance the performance, scalability, and stability of systems.
  • Apply networking knowledge to ensure that solutions are suitable for the IT environment.
  • Work with the designated ISSO to develop Authorization to Operate (ATO) for service offerings.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of AWS architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Stay informed about the latest AWS services, trends, and best practices.
  • Provide support to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions that address organizational needs, including new environment setups, upgrades, performance optimization, testing, and disaster recovery.
  • Offer expert guidance to development teams regarding infrastructure considerations.
  • Document and transfer knowledge; create records of pipeline architecture, design decisions, and setup instructions for future reference and onboarding.
  • Produce architectural framework documents, including white papers, guidance documents, and technical reports.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Design and test large-scale workload and data migrations.
  • Integrate cloud services with on-premises technologies.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of practical experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS-based solutions.
  • Experience in leading IT operations teams is essential.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Justice Public Trust Investigation, Tier 2.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, PHP, Python, and Ruby on Rails.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing dynamic cloud solutions and understanding the components involved in continuous integration and delivery.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps, web services, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • Experience in traditional IT operations environments, with knowledge of:
    • Web Development
    • Low code/No Code application Development
    • XML (Schema/Exchanges)
    • Platform/Application Administration (Linux, Windows)
    • Workflow Software (ServiceNow, MS Dynamics)
    • Identity Management (Authentication, Authorization, Directories)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering and enterprise architectures in AWS Cloud environments, with a strong grasp of AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and Lambda.
  • Proficient with tools including Okta, Splunk, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, CloudWatch, and CloudFormation.
  • Extensive experience with AWS Cloud products, particularly for government clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in a DevOps setting, applying Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) principles to meet client objectives.
  • An AWS Cloud Certification is preferred (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator).
